“May I have your attention now?” He whispered. I was still basking in the overwhelming self-pity that has consumed me for so long. God had been trying to get my attention for so long a time, but I had instead wallowed in low self-esteem, I had grumbled, murmured and complained about how things refused to work. I blamed my woes on the economy, on my friends and close associates who I thought had a responsibility to help me. That night, I was tired, my energy spent and my strength sapped.

“I’m here Lord”, I whispered in return. “Have I not told you time and again, that I will always be there for you? I have said that I will never leave you or abandon you and I am still standing on my promises. But, you need to ask me. See, son, I watch you daily as you move from one person to another seeking for help without even consulting me. Once you are faced with any challenge, your strategy is always to mentally list the names of all the people you believed could help out. You have never included my name on that list. Although, you lift your hands to me in worship each time you pray, your mind was never focused totally on me, as you make your petitions your mind is also busy calculating, seeking the second way out. How do you want me to help you, when you seem to have the idea of how to solve your needs? You know I care for you? So much more beyond your imaginations but I have also given you the privilege of choosing. Son, you have always made your choices but they all always exclude me, you need to include me so that I can come in to help. I did not delegate my responsibilities to men. I am your father and your problems are directly mine to solve…” He said

As the Lord continued that night, it was like a veil was removed from my eyes. I had been looking for help in wrong places. I knew I was meant to go to the Lord in prayer for every of my needs, after all, I read the scriptures daily and I am so versed in the knowledge of “what to do” but I had not up till that night translated that into reality.
A lot of times, we have become so familiar with the Lord that we take Him for granted. Instead of solving our problems by a simple prayer on our knees, we complicate matters for ourselves by running helter-skelter to places where we cannot receive help. In the long run, we come back to the points from where we started. And what fruits do we have? Heartbreaks, disappointments and bitterness, all of which could have been prevented if we had simply opened up to the Lord.

As you go out today on your daily businesses, learn to lay at His feet even the simplest of your burdens. You need not worry that the problem is small or big, God is interested in meeting every of your needs. I will never forget the advise given to me by a friend while at college, she said boy “you do not lose anything by trusting God” I have found that to be true, time and again. He sticks to his promises. Why don’t you give it a trial?
