The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 NIV

A lamb is thought of as being kind and gentle, which our Savior is, but here John the Baptist wishes us to know of Christ’s mission to take away the sin of the world. If we go to Genesis 22:8 we see Abraham reply to his son that God would provide the lamb for the burnt offering. Little did Abraham realize the full extent of that which he uttered. In Isaiah 53:7 we read “He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent so he did not open his mouth.” NIV

What a loving gift that our Savior bore our sins. He took our punishment of death for sin that we might spend eternity with the Father and the Son and fellow believers. Can there be a greater gift offered to us than this? Yet many choose to turn down the gift and live their lives for worldly desires. Pray for these souls. Share the Good News. Let the Holy Spirit control that which you share.
