Drink Heartily From The Cup

Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. Mark 15:23 NIV

What appears to be a small act of kindness offered to a condemned man may not have actually been as such. Although the drink might dull the severe pain forthcoming, at the same time the pain would be protracted. This more than likely was the true intent behind the offered drink.

Our Lord did not take from the offered drink. On His own our Savior would do nothing to reduce the severity of the cup which He must drink. He had to take the cup in all its bitterness.

Do we attempt to find actions to dull the pains of sacrifice in order to follow Christ? Why not instead ask the Lord to be with us that we without reservation drink fully of the cup of sacrifice? Our Lord did so on our behalf that we might have eternal life. Our earthly suffering can in no way deter us from our eternal reward in Christ.
