Lord God,

I thank you for the gift of life,

I thank you for each new day that I can wake up to and experience,

And for the blessings you bestow upon me each morning in Christ,

But Lord, please remind me that our lives are so short and fragile,

Every year it seems like time goes by faster and faster,

And as we get older, we question what we have really achieved in all our years,

It seems like we waste so much of our time fretting about things that don’t really matter,

Such as how we look, what we wear, how much money we have, how popular we are,

What other people think about us,

And other countless cares and worries,

None of us knows when our time in this world will be up,

And tomorrow is never guaranteed,

So Lord,

Please teach us to treasure every moment of every day that we are alive,

Help us to cast aside the illusion that we will live forever,

But help us also not to despair at the thought of one day dying,

Knowing that we have the hope of eternal life in Christ,

Please give us the wisdom to cast off the worthless cares and pleasures,

That distract us from what is truly important,

And strengthen us to resolve each day to live for Christ,

Setting our hearts and minds on the things have eternal worth,

So that whether we live for only one more minute,

Or whether we live for another eighty years,

Our lives might be a pleasing spiritual sacrifice to you.
