They took Jesus to the high priest, and all the chief priests, the elders and the teachers of the law came together. Peter followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards and warmed himself at the fire. Mark 14:53-54 NIV
Now that Jesus had been arrested, the pompous leaders, the chief priests, elders and teachers of the law made their appearance, coming together to bring false witness against the Lord.
Meanwhile, Peter had dared to follow Christ, but at a distance, even entering the courtyard of the high priest. Feeling the coolness of the night air, he chose to mingle with the guards, who were situated around a fire. Little did Peter know what lay ahead for him within the evening.
Do we follow Christ into areas which might be uncomfortable for us? Do we trust Him enough to go beyond our comfort zone and do as He says by following Him? Hopefully the answer to this question is “Yes.” Follow where the Lord leads. Any other path will not be good for you.
