Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4 NIV)
Paul is telling not only the Philippians, but even us today that we need to have joy in the Lord. It is so important that he repeats himself. When something is repeated in the Bible, you are to carefully consider what is being said.
Rejoicing reminds us that we are to do something with our joy. It is not enough that we have joy, but we have to let that joy out and show it to other people. When other people see us having the joy of the Lord, they want that joy, too.
This verse also reminds us to rejoice ALWAYS! That means in every situation and in all circumstances. When we don’t feel like rejoicing that should be our key indicator that we need to do it. We can always have something to be joyful about. Even if it is just the air we breathe. When we get our focus off of ourselves and onto God, we can’t help but have joy flow through our lives.
It’s important to remember that rejoicing is for our benefit, not God’s. He is always rejoicing over us. When we rejoice in the Lord, it lifts our spirits and takes us out of our certain circumstance and places us into the Throne Room with God.
Choose today to walk in the joy of the Lord. Rejoicing in God will allow abundant joy to flow through your life.
Thank You, Lord, for reminding me that no matter what my circumstances are, I can always be joyful. Help me remember that You are the One who gives me complete joy. Amen!
