“Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15 NIV
Why must we receive the kingdom of God like a little child? Children depend on those who care for them to protect them, to nourish them, and to guide them. When we become adults we learn to depend upon ourselves and our abilities. Sometimes we get swollen heads from too much ego and pride. Just as a child depends upon those who take care of them, so a child of God depends upon the Lord to provide protection, nourishment and guidance for them. Generally speaking, a little child does not question the authority or ability of one who cares for them. Do we do the same with God? Do we doubt Him and try to handle matters in our own way?
Have you ever noticed the difference in actions and attitudes of a little child receiving a gift versus an adult receiving a gift? Who would be more likely to have a radiance on their face? Which would be more likely to smile, be in amazement, and give a sincere thank you to the giver? The kingdom of God is a gift beyond compare. It comes to those who accept the gift of salvation.
Why is so much innocence and dependence taken from us as we leave childhood? Just remember what Christ said, that those who receive the kingdom of God must receive it as like a little child.
