Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” “What did Moses command you?” he replied. They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” “It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Mark 10:2-9 NIV

Does it not seem as if mankind’s heart is hardened toward God in many ways today? Man-made laws often contradict what we are taught as to God’s ways. Courts hand down verdicts in cases which also contradict what God wants from us. If something appears to be too hard to live by, we change the laws rather than the way we act. It seems as if we act like we know better what is needed for living than what God believes. This is quite sad and will not end well for us if we continue in this manner. Yes, it is hard to live by God’s commands, and we do fall short. But that is why Jesus gave His life for us, that through Him we might be made righteous in the sight of the Father. Too often we are stubborn and don’t submit our will over to the indwelling Holy Spirit. Will we ever learn? Pray that you be cognizant of your shortcomings. Take them to the Lord. He is there waiting to forgive you for committed sins and to direct you back to the ways of God. Live for Christ and not for things of this world.
