“You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him.” Mark 9:19-22a NIV
Is Jesus upset here with the father of the demon possessed boy? I don’t believe so. I believe the initial comment of Jesus here is directed at the teachers of the law who had been arguing with His disciples. I also believe it to be directed at those who just wanted to see Jesus perform another miracle, caring nothing about the doctrine which He preached.
Jesus actually takes the time to speak with the father, asking him how long his son had been this way.
Are you attentive to Jesus speaking to you? Do you listen, or only speak? Do not rush into prayer just stating your requests. Wait on the Lord. He wishes to talk with you. You must give Him the opportunity. You might need to wait, but waiting is part of being with the Lord. All happens in His time, not yours.
