I, In My Long Hope
The rain in its most peaceful stay
Can fly, and I, in my long hope,
Tremble in my trouble:
These times take life as dues.
Peace in its secret place
Cries for release and the crease
I live in fills with the tears:
His flood falls across my broken heart.
I hear the plaint of each day
In the mothering calm sea, and in me
Its beauty sleeps and the joy
It would show I see on the twist
In the path called progress.
No, No; No freedom yet for us all;
For we are the infants that
Have never become child:
Wild palls that patent straight stripes in blood
And all white moving stars.
Yes, the rain in its most peaceful stay
Can fly, and I, in my long hope,
Tremble in my trouble:
Must these times take life as dues?
