I Remember

In early morning
She comes with heavy head
To rest on one of the hollows
On my neck,
Her still sleep cheek
Pressed to my muscled teat.
I can hear her birthday balloons
Wheeze the ease
From her scrawny chest
As she clutches with relaxed rest
To both the warmth she knew
During her just-now dreamtime,
And to the matured heat
I have preserved in mine.

I shuffle to the next page
In my “Spring in Seasons”
Just as her knee
Pestles into my hip,
At which I change my eye
To read with my ribs
The morse code
Of her bird heart
Which always wrote
More scenarisms for my needs
Than all my feeble books.

Ah, I feel the sleep she sings;
And weighty and deep
In our sweet early cling-time,   
I remember…
That she is seed of my earth;
With sun she must grow:
But like early light
That comes to rest
In the arms of day;
Like hot humming coals
That bed into grey down ashes:
She, at any moment,
Can bring her fetal sleep
To the side of my bumpy life,
And warm up the thick grit
In my fatherly clay.
