We Are What Lies Within

Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” Mark 7:14-15 NIV

It is good that what is on the outside does not defile us. If that were the case, we would be hopeless. It is that which comes from within that shows our true character. What motivates us? What causes us to do the things we do? Do we live a life focused on ourselves and our needs, or do we focus on serving others and advancing God’s kingdom? Oh there are certainly times when we will fail, but our Lord waits for us to come to Him seeking restoration and forgiveness from our sins. The unbeliever sees no need to seek forgiveness. They want to continue to live in their selfish world. Yes, to truly see the character of an individual look not to that which surrounds the individual, but instead look to that which comes forth from that person. May we seek to serve our Lord and Savior!
