So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” Mark 7:5-8 NIV

 You might be able to fool mankind, but to fool God you will not be able to do. God knows the inner most motives of the heart of everyone. Paying lip service to Christ shall not provide you a pass to heaven. To receive eternal life one must believe that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God, that He sacrificed His life for an atonement for our sins, that He rose from the dead on the third day, and now sits at the right hand of the Heavenly Father, interceding on behalf of those who belong to Him. It is useless to offer lip service to Christ if your heart does not truly belong to Him. What motivates you each day? Is it to live your life according to the will of Jesus Christ, or is it to live for that which the world offers? As I said, you might fool others. You may even fool yourself. But you will never fool Christ. He knows you better than you know yourself. Make sure you are right with Him. If you have doubts ask Him to help you. If you sincerely approach Him, He will not turn you away. Live not by human traditions but by God’s commands.
