When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed. Mark 6:53-56 NIV
How wonderful. Many of the people in this passage believed that their friends or loved ones would be healed even by the touch of the cloak which Christ wore. Do we today feel that we can be healed just by the touch of Jesus’ presence? Do we not know that much more happens when Jesus is in our presence, in our thoughts, words and deeds? Do we rely on ourselves, or do we rely on Christ? Yes, Christ wants us to use that which we have been given, but our reliance must be upon Him. God provides all that we truly need. As a child we rely and depend upon our parents to provide for us. Why can we not more be like little children and rely upon our creator to take care of and provide for us? We were not created to be self-reliant. The more we give ourselves to God and rely upon Him, the more we can live in true freedom.
