Jesus Was Indignant

A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. Mark 1:40-42 NIV

Jesus was indignant. Was this directed at the man with the leprosy? I highly doubt it. Many manuscripts of the verse say that Jesus was filled with compassion. So, who was the target of Jesus being indignant? I believe it was those who treated anyone with leprosy the way this man had been treated. Kept away from others. Jesus saw the belief in this man. The man did not specifically ask Jesus to remove the leprosy. Instead in a humble manner he knelt before the Lord and said that he knew that Christ could heal Him if He were willing. And, of course, Christ did heal the man.

How do we approach Jesus when we have needs? Do we specifically ask that Jesus provide us with our needs, or do we let the Lord know that we know that He will provide for us that which we truly need? We need to learn to have more faith in believing that Christ knows our every need, and will provide according to His will. This should be enough for us. We truly must believe that we shall be given that which we need.
