A STRANGE WOMAN: ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE

A "strange woman" is a term usually used to describe a female who is not usually known or familiar or seen by a man. She is a woman with whom a man has no closeness in one form or another. In religious circle, it is interpreted to mean a woman who is involved in unholy sexual relationship with another woman's husband.

That is, a woman not legally married to a man but is involved in illicit affairs with a man.

She is also known as "an immoral woman".

Proverbs 5:3-6, 15-20 says much about her style and standard of living. She is even called " a seductress".

What the King James Version of the Holy Bible refers to as "a strange woman" in if Proverbs 5:3, 20 and I Kings 11:1 is referred to in the New King James Version as an "immoral woman" and a "foreign woman" respectively. No reason for debate on the use of each of these words. They all above deep and meaningful interpretations. For this purpose, in this piece, these words shall be used as synonyms.

I like to state here that the issue of a strange woman in a man's life goes beyond morals. It has strong spiritual implications. The Lord warned His people against whoredoms that they may not defile the land which He has given them to inherit, Lev 19:29. He warned them in Exodus. 20:3.

"Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

A STRANGE WOMAN AND OTHER GODS.

Do you know that the tendency is high that a strange woman will not hesitate to introduce a strange god (s) to a man? This is done, in most cases, in the name of love. Hear the Scriptures about King Solomon.

"But King Solomon loved many foreign woman,...

For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives

turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was

not loyal to the Lord his God." I Kings 11:1a, 4.

This evil loss of smooth relationship with his God attracted the wrath of the Lord his God. Read more on this in I Kings 11:14-40. In that Scripture verses, a man of rest became a man of war. That is a negative effect of foreign women in the life of King Solomon.

A STRANGE WOMAN IN THE PALACE

I think you should not be caught napping when I inform you that King Ahab was not wicked on his own. Why? When he coveted the vineyards of Naboth which was denied him by the owner, he only became sad; knowing not what to do.

Not only this, when his secret wickedness was revealed to him through Prophet Elijah, he humbled himself before the Lord who pronounced his judgment on the king and his household. I Kings 21:4,27.

How then did Ahab become a wicked king in Isreal? The Scriptures pointed to the strange woman in his life. Read this,

"But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself

to do wickedness in sight of the Lord, because Jezebel

his wife stirred him up.

And he behaved very abominably in following idols

according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the

Lord had cast out before the children of Isreal." I Kings 21:25-26.

Every "wife" who stirs his man to act contrary to the will of the Lord and encourage a strain relationship between God and his man is a strange woman.

Let me bring in the case of Rachel, the heartthrob of Jacob, who later became Israel. She was legally married to her man. Both had access to each other without restriction. To Jacob, she was the only wife he had. He gave his heart to her even after her death, Israel called her "My wife", Genesis 29:21.

Thank God for the spiritual affinity between Isreal and his God. Rachel was aware of this, so she had no effrontery to make known to him that she was in possession of her father's stolen idols, which she perfectly concealed when a serious and thorough search was conducted for them, Gen 31:35. Her husband did not know about this, Gen 31:32. He unknowingly placed a curse of death on her.

Now, who knows what would have happened if Rachel had lived up to the twightlight of Jacob's life. It was possible for her to introduce idols to him when his wife stirred him up.

Now, who knows what would have happened if Rachel had lived up to the twightlight of Jacob's life. It was possible for her to introduce idols to him when his power had waned. This was the case with King Solomon with his foreign women. Note that he was the wisest King of his days. It was when he was old that his wives took his heart to their different idols.

Please, note that this piece is not meant to generate theological debate but to learn lessons from the lives of people involved. There are many people of God who live today with foreign women as their wives and it is sad that many of such women are not ready to turn to the living God of their husbands.

Note the wide gap between the relationship between the God of Jacob, Leah and Rachel.

When Leah did everything in her power to secure Jacob's love to no avail, she resigned to praise the Lord God of her man. Gen 29:35.

Not so with Rachel. When she had no child, what did she do? She approached Jacob saying, "Give me children, or else I die" Gen 30:1

The man replied, "Am I in the place of God, who has with held from you the fruit of the womb? Verse 2.

On the day of her demise, it is not on record that she called on the God of Isreal to intervene in her birth travails, she passed on giving her second child " Ben-oni" as a name. However, her man charged it to Benjamin.

Now, in one form or another, are you in any relationship with any foreign woman? Now is the proper time to do an assessment of your life and how its end will be. It is better now to speak with your Maker to help you out before your heart is taken to idols when your time is about to expire.

The end of a thing is better than its beginning. Your own end matters most. May you not regret your ever coming into the world in Jesus Name.
