The Stolen Coat

A man walks into a worksite with a shovel over his shoulder. He pauses, puts the shovel aside momentarily, takes off his coat, and finds a place to store it, before taking up the shovel to dig. He pauses briefly to mop the sweat off his brow for it is a hot afternoon.(The hymn, “We Will Work Till Jesus Comes” is playing with lyrics being sung in the background.) He hasn’t worked long before another man comes along, notices the coat, picks it up and begins to sneak away. The man with the shovel turns and takes off his sunglasses to put them in his coat pocket and sees the man slipping away with his coat.

“Hey, wait, that’s my coat!”

The thief begins to run and the man runs after him. The thief arrives at a gate and tries to unlatch it, but finds it locked. He turns and cringes, shrinking defensively from the owner of the coat as he arrives at the gate, bracing himself, as if he expects to be beaten.

“No, I won’t hurt you. Look at me, look me in the eye. Just relax now, here, I came to give you my shirt too. (Removes his outer shirt and places it in the hands of the thief, who is wide-eyed and flabbergasted.)

“I have never seen anything like this, in all my experience robbing stuff, never. This is definitely a first for me………….why……why are you doing this?”

The man who just gave up his shirt reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a pocket testament. “Well…..let me show you something..."
