The setting is a boxing ring. The two fighters are introduced one after the other. Each raises his arms and nods to the cheering crowd. Then the bell sounds and the fight begins as the two fighters begin to test each other and probe for a weakness or a lowered guard. Each is looking for an opening for attack, a vulnerability to exploit in the other. The referee circles with the fighters ready to break up a clinch, to disentangle, and monitor punches to keep them within the bounds of the rulebook. Suddenly one boxer goes on the offensive with a barrage of punches that seem to have little effect. The other counters by going on the offensive himself. All his punches are deflected except for the final one which stuns his opponent momentarily. Just then, surprisingly, the referee attacks the stunned boxer as well, flailing at him with a series of wild punches that are bare fisted. The crowd goes wild, egging the ref on to a more furious display of punches. The combination of punches from the other boxer and the referee knock their victim to one knee. Another official who had been sitting ringside gets up, climbs into the ring, and rushes out to restrain the referee. The other fighter continues to strike his kneeling opponent until a third official intervenes and restrains him.
“What in the world! What do you think you are doing?” They ask the original referee.
“There was something about him I didn’t like. I couldn’t put my finger on it, so I put my fist on it! Ha! That’s a good one, don’t ya think!?”
“What?!” I think you are out of your mind, that’s what I think!”
“No, He’s ugly, maybe that’s it. Just plain ugly.” (pointing at the downed boxer who is on all fours now.)
