Before Partaking In The Lord's Supper

So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 NIV

Before partaking of the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, we must take  personal inventory. Do we have any sins which we need to bring before the Lord, asking for forgiveness with a repentant heart? Are we attune with our brothers and sisters in the body of Christ, or do we harbor resentment or other ill feelings due to disagreements? When we partake of the Lord’s Supper, we signify that we are united as His body of believers and we remember the Lord’s suffering and death on our behalf. Do our actions truly support our being united as His body? Disunity does exist within the church, so we must truly examine ourselves before participating in the Lord’s Supper. If we have an issue to resolve, we should do so before partaking. This is a matter which is not meant to be taken lightly, as we do not wish to eat or drink judgement upon ourselves.

There was a great effort to diminish the emphasis upon the shed blood of Christ in several of the newer bible translations. An attempt to change with the times.

As long as words like these come before the eyes of others, the body and blood of Christ will never be considered something to amend.
