Sometimes I just wonder, I really wonder!
I wonder what happened to the love we once professed?
That bond of oneness that seemed so indestructible?
That strong desire to stay connected come what may?
That permanent longing of sticking close at all seasons?

Does the phenomenon we call love have a transition period?
A period when our great conviction becomes decimated
By issues and happenings so invincible?
What took place in our hearts that drew us wide apart?
Where did we break the hedge that made the serpent bite us?

Remember those sweet flowing and assuring words?
What of the love-soaked cards and love letters of different colours?
The countless dates, and long hours of romantic gaze
What happened to them all? What cut off the flow?
I ask simple questions. I am yet to find the answers.

These are questions I ponder on regularly
As I daily read the pages of our newspapers
And as I repeatedly hear the upward mobile statistics
Of previously budding relationships collapsing
I just wonder what is happening, I really wonder.

Why do we have so short a memory?
Why do we concentrate so much on today’s delight
While we sacrifice our tomorrow on the altar of today’s desire
We end up destroying our joy for a worthless adventure!
Hmnnn…..it beats my imagination, the thoughtlessness of men!
