Have you ever desired to do something, confident that it’s your purpose to fulfil, have everything you need to lay the foundation and establish it, but you still feel stuck, thinking there must be something else, something is missing, so you sit and wait to try to figure out what it could be?
Can you identify? ‘Yes, yes, what is it?’ you may ask…. the biggest culprit is FEAR and he brings along his best friend procrastination. The control you give these two emotional mechanisms is undetectable, you get so comfortable living with them within the contours of your mind that you don’t view them as your worse enemies, agents blocking your zeal, goal and destiny.
So let’s take a deeper look at these elements that stunt your growth to success. From where does False Expectation Appearing Real (FEAR) originate? This normally stems from your history (background), culture, environment and peer group. Oprah Winfrey says ‘Only surround yourself with people who will lift you higher’. This says who you choose as your peers are crucial to your success or failure, but you automatically choose who you are familiar with, loyal without recognition to dysfunctional friendships and relationships.
‘Psychology Today’ [Aug 2, 2011] states ‘….your ability to envision the future is strongly influenced by your memory [of] the past. That is [to say] you tend to use past experiences to predict what your life will be…. In the future’. Therefore even though you see yourself being and doing more than what you have been born into and experience, your past environment and culture can influence your progress.
The negative and impoverish environment, where you were not encouraged and given the opportunity to believe in yourself and your dreams, will invite FEAR to occupy your mind, thoughts of ‘am I good enough?’ The cautious ‘what if,’ fear of looking like a fool for being bold and courageous to carry out your desires, designing something so great and powerful; fear of being told this was not your original idea and being called a fraud? The strong mental attack of negative attitudes and characteristics are so familiar, it’s drowning, stopping you in your tracks towards the finish line as FEAR invites procrastination to join him.
The need to hear someone say ‘Yes You Can’ becomes your daily craving; with that, the Desire2Win that continually burn within you raise its volume and you begin to emerge. Believe you have the power to control and accept or reject the voices you hear. The good book says ‘we are made a little lower than the Angels’ (Hebrew: 2v7) start living your truth. Your past and current circumstances do not define who you are or have control over your destiny. Don’t become enslaved by your past, end the entrapment of your mind.
