Written 11-8-04

Adam slept and Isaac pondered,
Boaz worked, but I wondered,
“Where is the one You have for me?”
She who’ll set my passions free?”

The Word said, “Do not seek a wife,”
I soon learned You commanded;
In truth, it spoke against me,
And what I demanded.

So, I sought for myself,
Being led by my heart;
Each choice I made soon turned sour,
And two lives were torn apart.

Three attempts were made,
By this wandering Christian;
My hurting another and myself,
Were the results of this mission.

I heard from You, “Be content,
With what I’ve given you.
Look up to Me, and repent,
And see how I’m still true.”

And I searched Your Word, on seeking a mate,
With much to my surprise,
Holy men had guarded their hearts,
With their spiritual eyes.

Adam was given spiritual sleep,
As God was forming his mate.
He brought her to her man,
With no need to date.

As the servant sought a wife
For Isaac, he only pondered;
Praying was his preoccupation,
And he never wandered.

Boaz persisted to tend the fields,
His stewardship was his lands;
Naomi soon sent Ruth to work,
Were united without his demands.

He knows my heartland, with all its ways,
And each mysterious acre,
I then saw how He makes
My personal perfect Matchmaker.

My heart, in this, has found its rest,
I know to Whom I belong;
As I wait upon my Lord,
I see I am strong.

Should I die, and she never comes,
My lot will still be good;
For my God is ever faithful,
And He is my passions’ food.
