Thanksgiving is....the concept of 'traditional perfections' (to which we have become accustomed)...but which MUST be garnished liberally with an awareness of 'traditional VALUES' as well.

The 'perfections' are wonderful...successful duplications of ancient family recipes...a turkey (worthy of the occasion) and....football!

But it is the VALUES, which must capture us and perpetuate themselves in our minds...beyond that ONE day in November. Among these values, we will find family and friends...those we love and respect, and who, in turn, reciprocate our appreciation.

Then there are our 'rights'...to worship, pray, believe, express ourselves, observe and celebrate...AND...our right to participate and be heard in the rituals of government. We must count all of these as blessings, and gather them close. We must cherish their validity.

Thanksgiving is...a time to respond to the challenges that jeopardize our values and to purpose in our hearts that the time...and the attitude for giving thanks...is EVER present.

As our awareness quickens, we recognize the importance of a day by day....even moment by moment relationship with God...as we thank Him...the Giver of ALL.

We may have to stretch our imaginations into new shapes, and teach our souls to sing new songs, as we resolve that OUR season of Thanksgiving will go on....beyond November!
