The single man in today’s world is cumbered with many issues, apart from the eminent truth that the devil is relentlessly operational in man’s psychophysical turf with the aim of making him a dysfunctional entity, useless to his fellow men and worthless before God, the man himself is webbed in myriads of chains, almost every step he takes is in the wrong direction. My focus in this small piece is however, neither to the natural man nor his general concern. This is primarily for the regenerated man. What happens when we get genuinely disappointed in a relationship? Or what do we do after we have tried all we could to make a relationship work and yet it remained inert?

Before taking any step, there is a need to retreat and ask questions. We cannot over emphasize the place of the Holy Spirit in starting and ending a relationship. If He was involved in starting it, there is a need to really ask him questions and seek His counsels before moving a step away. While I do not subscribe to spiritually intimidating the sister or vice versa, we must be sure of God’s direction for us. We need not broadcast whatever God tells us to everyone, but we must be sure we hear him out before going in a new direction. Sometimes, He might want us to wait for the man/lady while He works on him/her. We must be willing to be patient as we obediently follow his leading.

I guess, there is a need for me to sound this caution. It is both morally wrong and spiritually irresponsible for any brother to keep going from one sister to another all in the name of moving forward! I believe, the Holy Spirit guides our hearts and even when we make mistake in the place of listening incorrectly, we can go back and carefully listen to his directive afresh. Christian relationship is not synonymous to conjectural guessing or speculation.
I doubt it if there exist any genuine and sensible person who goes into a relationship with an ultimate plan of failing. I really doubt it. But then just as a man is subject to several forces within and without his immediate environment so also are all the relationships he has, be it parental, friendship, business or marital. Although man has always arrogated to himself the fact that he alone is the author of his destiny, but, time and again events around him has proved that there are several other factors outside his circle of influence.

So, if having tried all your possible efforts and it didn’t work out, you might then need to move on. This of course must be with care, so that you don’t keep repeating the same mistakes, walking in cycles. The scriptures says all things works together for good for guys who love God and are called according to His purpose…just like David, you need not cry over the dead child when there is a kingdom to rule, forget about the past and move on to connect to what God has in store for you next.
