Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NAS
The enemy roams around like a roaring lion, looking for a believer to devour. It is like a mountain lion roaming around the border of a flock of sheep. Looking for the weak ones, and those who have wandered away from the protection of the flock and the Shepard. He cannot devour every believer, just those who are weak in the faith. Those who have believed Satan’s lies, doubting God’s promise in John 3:16 and seeing themselves in their dead flesh instead of their perfected Spirit in Christ.
The Bible talks about the armor of God. I have known people who symbolically put on the armor every day as though they were getting dressed. While this can be a good thing, the Bible tells us only one time to put on the armor of God, and it never says to take it off. I sleep in the armor because I know the enemy often likes to attack in the dark of night.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. Eph 6: 10-20 NAS
The armor of God is not about symbolically getting dressed for battle. The armor of God is put on when we are baptized into Christ and never removed. When we finally realize what we already have in Christ, when our mind is renewed to this truth, we recognize ourselves in the Spirit, in Christ, and no longer in the crucified and dead flesh. This is when we walk in the power of God in this world, the power we have right now but may not yet recognize. Jesus is the armor of God. We are in Christ. The more we see ourselves in Christ, the more we become like Him. It is a beautiful thing and all of God.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. Rom 13:14 NAS
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Gal 3:27 NAS
and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth. Eph 4:23-24 NAS
We resist the enemy by being firm in the faith in our identity in Christ.
But resist him, firm in your faith, 1 Peter 5:9a NAS
Being firmly established in our identity in Christ, is the armor of God. This is what makes a Christian un-devourable by the enemy.
I accept that in Christ I am:
Greatly loved by God - Ephesians 2:4 - Forgiven of all my sins - Ephesians 1:7
Free from the law of sin and death - Romans 8:2 - Righteous - Rom 5:19
Complete - Colossians 2:10 NASB - Justified - 1 Corinthians 6:11
Sanctified - Hebrews 10:10 NASB - Holy and without blame - Ephesians 1:4
Perfected - Hebrews 10:14 NASB
Are you un-devourable?
Are you firmly established by faith in your mind and thoughts in the above truths? Or are you still focused on your crucified and dead flesh that God circumcised from your perfected Spirit, a flesh that will never be perfected and must die? Is your walk with Christ more like a scary roller coaster ride, faith to fear, faith to fear, etc? Or, is your walk in the peace and power of Christ as it can be, from faith to faith? You can have great victory in this life. Study the book of Hebrews and learn all about the New Covenant and who you are in Christ. Focus on New Covenant Bible studies for one year and do not mix the New with the Old Covenant in the least and be set free, transformed and empowered by God. We reign in life by accepting God’s free gift of righteousness and the abundance of grace he provides us.
For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Rom 5:17
Think of it this way, in the Old Testament, the Jews were saved and set free from Pharaoh (a picture of Satan) by the blood of the lamb (a picture of Christ) put on the doorposts. If you have placed the blood of Christ on your doorposts by trusting in Jesus as your Savior, you are saved from the enemy, period. You now have eternal life. Now you have another choice. You can die in the wilderness like the majority of the saved Jews did, or you can go into the promised land in this life where there is a great victory just like Joshua and Caleb experienced. In the promised land, by faith, we rise above circumstances and walk in the peace and power of Christ. The only thing that kept the Jews in the wilderness according to the Bible was that they did not mix faith with what they heard. Instead of believing God’s promise that He had given the promised land to them, they focused on their doubts and fears. The only thing that kept them from entering was doubting God’s word. Doubt and fear is the same thing that keeps a believer today from walking into the promised land of God’s peace and power. Satan will tell every lie imaginable to create doubt and keep believers in fear instead of faith. Isn’t it time to stop messing around and simply believe God all out? He is for you and not against you. The only one that wants you to doubt is Satan. Don’t let the enemy or other believers that he has deceived keep you from reigning in this life. Stop looking back and believe all out. Move forward in your identity in Christ and refuse to turn back no matter what attacks may come.
