And Jacob was left alone and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint as he wrestled with him. And he said let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let the go except thou bless me. And he said unto him what is thy name? And he said Jacob. And he said thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men and hast prevailed.
God’s gotta a blessing but you gotta fight for it.
God had a blessing for Jacob but he wanted Jacob to fight for it. Just as God wanted Jacob to fight for his blessing, so must we fight for our blessing. I’m not necessarily talking about material blessings or financial blessings, I’m talking about power with God and with men. But in order to get this blessing, we gotta fight. Ephesians6:12 says, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
I’m reminded as child when I used to wrestling on TV. We had hulk hogan, Andre the giant, the junkyard dog and many others. Thee objective of the sport is to pin your opponent’s shoulders to the mat. In order to beat the count, you would have to kick out or put your leg on the rope. The enemy’s objective is to pin your shoulders to the mat. He seeks to wear you out spiritually and emotionally so you don’t beat the count.
The enemy is after your blessing. He wants you to think that you’re wasting your time. He wants you to give up and quit and will use the people closest to you. The Apostle Paul said be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole arm our of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. To be a Christian, you gotta be strong. God will make a way but you gotta stay under the power of God.
The devil is after your faith in God because he knows that if he can get your faith, he can get you to move away from God. Jesus told Peter, he said Simon, Simon, behold, Satan had desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee that thy faith faileth not. And thou are converted strengthen thy brethren. Jesus is tarrying that our faith faileth not.
There is a fight that must take place, and the fight is between you and the devil. God’s gotta blessing, but the devil doesn’t want you to get it. The devil was once in a place of blessing but the devil lost his place. And since he lost his place, he can’t get it back. Since he can’t get it back, he’s trying to stop you from getting yours. I stop by to let you know that whatever you want from God requires a fight. The devil doesn’t fight no other people the way he fights Christian folks. That’s how you know we have the real thing in Jesus Christ.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called and hast professed a good profession among many witnesses. Ephesians 6:13 says wherefore take unto you the whole arm our of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand.
Stand therefore having your loins girt about with truth. Stand, having on the breastplate of righteousness. Stand, with your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Stand, taking the shield of faith. Stand, that ye may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Stand, taking the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Stand, Hallelujah stand!
In closing, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. God’s gotta blessing but you gotta fight for it. Amen.
