  Once one of my best friends Craig invited me to join him and his parents, with his parents' permission, as they visited his grandmother for a Sunday luncheon as I recall.  His grandmother had prepared the meal and set the dining room table in what would have seemed an elegant manner to me at the time.  Our own family rarely ate together and never in such a large and spacious dining room as I found at Craig's grandmother's house.  I might have felt like I was going to "fall into the soup."  As I look back upon it now I believe that the elderly white-haired woman was a Christian.  I think I remember her name being Mrs Craig from which my friend's name itself would have been derived.  After we had sat down to the meal and I had been introduced to Mrs Craig, she asked me to give thanks for the food in prayer,  or as some put it, to say grace.  I had never heard of such a practice so I replied somehow that I didn't know what she meant or didn't know how to do it.  She was gracious and either rendered thanks herself or had one of the other family members do so.  It all happened so fast that I hardly had time to be embarrassed but probably was.  But even in whatever embarrassment there was, a seed was planted that afternoon, because I have never forgotten it.  Today I am a chaplain and have said grace at large gatherings, sometimes initiating it myself.  Among other things  I can say grace today because Jesus Himself spoke His grace into my life in the beginning and made me a new creation.  Maybe that gracious grandmother prayed for me after that day, and watered the seed and helped set the stage for what and Who was to come into my young life.  Whatever the case, thank you, Mrs. Craig for planting that precious seed, and thank you my friend Craig for that life changing invitation!  The extraordinary is often disguised in such simple ordinary events.  Maybe even today's events......
