As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross. They came to a place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Matthew 27:32-37 NIV
How interesting. The charge brought against Jesus, in the eyes of the procurator, and the Romans, is that Jesus was the King of the Jews. He is so much more. He is the King of Kings. The only king that the Romans acknowledged was their own king.
So, was Jesus killed because He was a king? Not hardly. Jesus died, as mankind needed a sacrifice, an eternal one, to cover as an atonement for the forgiveness of sins. That atonement can only be found through Jesus Christ. The Father did not spare His only Son, but, through His perfect plan, presented mankind with a way to be reconciled to Him, a reconciliation needed since man disobeyed in the garden. This is how much God loves us. He wants us to be reconciled to Him. We must though make the choice to accept Christ. Accept the King of Kings into your life. Don’t pass up the only way to salvation and reconciliation.
