Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?” “He is worthy of death,” they answered. Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him and said, “Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?” Matthew 26:62-68 NIV
Since Jesus would not answer the high priest about the accusations brought against Him, the man decided just to come straight forward, asking Him if He was the Son of God. Jesus answered Him with truth, which was all the leaders sought in order to convict Him of blasphemy. Where else has the truth been spoken, and considered to be blasphemy by those who heard it?
Now that the leaders had words out of the mouth of the Lord, which they used to convict Him, they continued the mockery. These men were completely blind to the truth.
Are there times when we are blind to the truth? Do some things which are truth go against what we believe to be so, or, are just inconvenient to that which we seek? The truth is not always easy to accept. But, if it comes from the Lord, then we need to know that it is truth, for, the Lord speaks only what is truth. Never lose sight of that which the Lord teaches you. Stray not from His path.
