Bold Proclamations

Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.” Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.” “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same. Matthew 26:31-35 NIV

Peter made a bold proclamation about him following Christ, even if all the other disciples should flee. Jesus told the man that he would deny His Master three times before the cock crowed. All the other disciples also said that they would not leave the Lord. Yet, they were all scattered in just a short time period as Jesus was arrested in Gethsemane.

Be careful in making bold proclamations about your faith and your actions. I try to never use the words always and never. They are absolutes. I will use these words in reference to Christ, but, I dare not use them when speaking of myself. If I do so, I only set myself up to lose. We should put forth our very best effort in working for the Lord. There will be times, though, when we fail to act in a proper Christian manner. We need, then, to come before the Lord, humbly asking that He forgive us, and guide us back on the path of doing His will, and not ours.

Share the Good News with others. Pray for others, Love as the Lord loves. Read the word of God. And don’t make bold proclamations about yourself, in any manner. The Lord does not need you to do this.
