One Bag Was Too Much

“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.“ ‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ Matthew 25:24-30 NIV

Some who have been given gifts will not properly use them. They hoard, and keep for themselves, rather than sharing. The gifts we have received are to be shared. We have been given freely, and freely we should share. The one who buries any gifts they have been given has no incentive, no motivation to wisely utilize these gifts. That would require time and effort, two valuable commodities which some wish to use solely for self. Self is taken care of by the Lord. We are to be concerned with the well-being of others.

On the day of accountability, those who buried their gifts will be deemed lazy and worthless by the Master. They have lost that with which they were blessed. These shall face an eternal torment, cast forever out of the sight of God.

Our journey here on earth is limited. Time is a valuable commodity, and we are to use it to share that with which we have been blessed. Do not allow yourself to become lazy. Do not dare to bury that which you have been given. Share the Good News with others. Be in prayer with God. Let the Holy Spirit dwell within you, directing your path in the Lord’s ways. You do not wish to be this last servant on the day you stand before the Master for an accountability.
