I have had so many people in my life that needed healing of their hearts and they kept turning to everything but God. So I asked for stories that might reach different people. Here is one of them.

The Amnesia Patient

It was a terrible war. There were so many casualties that the hospital was full. One of the wards had a group of men in it, that had never met each other before, but as they were starting to recover, they sought out each other in order to recapture memories of the home that they so desperately missed.

One particular soldier had amnesia. It was very severe and he could not remember anything, not even that he had been in a war. He listened carefully as the other soldiers talked about the war and the homes they missed. One conversation particularly interested him. The other soldiers started a conversation about their fathers. He was trying to remember what a father was and by listening to the different men, he was getting so many versions it became confusing to him.

He heard the following stories:

My father was great. We did everything together, we talked about everything and he taught me so much about life. Even though we can’t be together now, we think of each other often and I love remembering all the things we did and talked about.

My friends think my father is great, but I didn’t know him very well. We were all so busy that we just didn’t make much family time together. I guess I don’t know my father very well, but I think he is a good man and I appreciate all he did for our family.

I didn’t know my father. I guess I have one, but my mother says that he died before I was born.
No one ever mentions him in our house. I guess in a way you can say that I don’t have a father and I don’t really know what it would be like to have one.

This started the amnesia patient thinking. “Do I have a father? What is he like?”
After hearing the many versions, he knew that everyone has a father even if they have never met him. He learned that the only way you can truly get to know a father is by spending time with him. He knew that something would always be missing in his life if he didn’t find out the truth about his father. He also knew that the only way he would accept the truth was if he found out for himself and not through other sources.

So what did you do in your life? You heard that there is a God the Father in heaven.
Did you believe that it was true? There are so many people that claim that they know Him, but they can’t prove it to you. He isn’t here in the flesh, there’s just the love and peace and healing that everyone claims that they experience when they are with His Spirit. Not many people truly know Him and so it is hard for them to explain to you what He is like. We have His Word (the Bible) and that tells us what He is like, but hearing about Him is not like spending time with Him personally.

But you still aren’t convinced. This world can be such a violent place and a loving Father would not let all these terrible things happen, or would He? What if He had children that just wouldn’t learn no matter what the Father said or did? Would the Father decide that maybe His children needed to figure things out for themselves, even if it would be painful?

There isn’t any thing that anyone could tell you that would prove it to you. The only thing that you have to go on, is that there will always be a nagging feeling that something is missing in your life. You might find excuses for this feeling by saying, “this feeling would go away if only I had lived somewhere else or my marriage had been different or if I had a different job or got married or had more money or had more devoted friends and family or did things differently.” You could probably think of a lot of other reasons on your own. But then no life would be good enough. Every life could always be better.

Maybe you have never met someone that truly knows God. I’m not talking about the guy who knows about God, but someone who actually spends time with Him and has a personal relationship with Him. You may never meet someone who glows with the Love of God, but should that stop you? Just because they missed out on a relationship with God, doesn’t mean you have to. A relationship with anyone is what the two involved, make of it. God is too great to let you down once you give Him a chance. What have you got to lose? If you truly seek out God and don’t find Him, then you won’t have lost anything. But when you do find Him, you will be like the amnesia patient that did search for the Father (God) and found something that could never be replaced in his life with anything else. God is not like any father on earth. God is the perfect Father, but you will never know this until you know Him personally.

It is said that in order for you to find the Father you must first find the Son. When you truly search out God, He will show you this Himself.

John 4:6
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Matthew 23
9Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. 11But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

John 17
1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
