ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS: the key to effective witnessing.
By Henry Jaegers

The importance of asking the right questions to those to whom we witness is crucial. The right questions cause them to reevaluate their present position and see the need for a change. Recently I read a book by Francis Schaeffer called “THE GREAT EVANGELICAL A DISASTER.” That was a very enlightening book to me and help me to see what was happening in our present time. The problem in the 21st the century church is the problem of accommodation. That means we allow certain things to take place in order for us to achieve a greater result. The common word for accommodation is a compromise. Compromise is not n a nice word but accommodation sounds better and more Christian. In the book of Revelation, the church of Pergamos and Thyatira were both guilty of accommodation and the result was a great deal of corruption that became out-of-control to the point of even the leaders become corrupt. That is the problem with accommodation.

The solution to the problem is there another word which we don't like c called, confrontation. In order to correct a problem, it must be confronted. Just think what would have happened to David if there was not a Nathan to confront him. All the prophets in the Scripture had a ministry of confrontation and if that is missing from our message then the accommodation continues.

That is an illustration of what I am trying to say. In witnessing to our unsaved friends, it is important that we ask certain questions and these questions cause them to re-think their present condition. Sometimes our testimony alone is enough to cause that to happen, but in my case, it was a question that Frosty put to me, “If you were to die tonight, do you know for certain that you would be in Heaven?

I recently talked to my next-door neighbor and she had a very unique way of witnessing to her unsaved friends at work. Her method was to make them all feel like they all were Christians. She was very popular and held up by many of her friends as a great Christian, but do you see something wrong with this kind of testimony? Is this another example of “accommodation”? Suppose a Christian took the attitude that all they have to do is look at my life and that is enough? For years they may labor under the assumption that they were witnessing but the fact was when their friends have eventually confronted the question was I didn't know you were Christian. I thought if I live my life like you I could get to heaven and I didn't need to become a Christian. That is the problem we sometimes face.

I think this question requires further consideration. Can you share with our group some experiences you had both successful and unsuccessful in sharing the gospel with another? Your submission will be greatly welcome and a real source of encouragement for the rest of us. Please consider this request.
