Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back;lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. Isaiah 54:2
Investors look for promising companies to invest in. They are focused on the potential profit a company will generate that will add value to their portfolio. Due diligence is done to ensure that the company is aligned with the industry they are concentrating on, the business model it is following, the capacity of the people managing and working on it and the amount of funds that they will infuse.
The companies may become a strategic investment where they foresee a long-term engagement with bigger profits, or they will consider it as a short-term investment with easy way out. For short-term companies, there will be provisions for divestment once the target income is generated. In the development community this is called the phase-out mechanism.
It is different in an enterprise used by God and managed by God’s people. If we are blessing others as we are blessed, God will entrust more resources to us to reach more people. As our good works abound and people are coming to Him through us, He will be glorified.
The text reveal to us the template for expansion and scaling up of enterprises used by God. Christian businesspeople should be conscious of these four main elements.
The first is to secure the place of your tent. This is simply the territory given to us. It may not be a physical location but an industry or a work environment given to us. This is basic because if we feel we have no territory, then the first thing we should do is ask God to show us our place.
Once the place is secured, the next is to enlarge by stretching your curtain tents wide. The tent refers to the products and services we are providing. We should extend this either by making more people benefit from it or improving it to be more accessible and affordable to more people. As tents provide respite in the searing desert sun, our products and services should be excellent in responding to the needs of the clients.
There is even a clear command: Do not hold back. Some people who were blessed by God are tempted to stop when they fill they had enough, forgetting that they are being used for a holy purpose.
The third element is to distribute the burden by lengthening the cords. Scaling up and expanding requires providing opportunities to other businesspeople, to share burden and the benefits derived from it. We lengthen the cords by allowing others to become part of our enterprise, benefit from it and share the joy of service.
The fourth refers to digging deep to strengthen the stakes where the cords are attached. The stakes are our business partners. The more stakes where the tent is attached makes it stable. The same with Christian enterprises. The more people are working together, the more stable the enterprise will become. Pray that God will give you the right partners.
