“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are invited, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:8-14 NIV

Christ tells us that those who are burdened should come to Him, where they will find rest. Christ invites us to turn our lives over to His care. He asks us to believe in Him and trust in Him.

The one who is not in wedding clothes can be equated to one who presents a false image of belonging to Christ. This individual might even be a church attender, or even speak kindly of Christ. However, if one does not truly belong to Christ, they will be cast out from the wedding celebration. This one will not inherit the kingdom of God.

God cannot be fooled by false pretenses. God knows what lies within the heart and soul of every human. We must totally submit ourselves to the will of God. We must let go of the need to control.

I pray that none of us be pulled aside and be asked how we got into the wedding feast without wedding clothes.
