Work In My Vineyard

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went. “He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. “He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’” Matthew 20:1-7 NIV

The vineyard, in this parable, represents the kingdom of God. God sends His workers (believers) into this world to work on the advancement of His kingdom. He has done this throughout creation, and continues to do so. (reflected in the various times during the day when the land owner went to the streets to find more workers)

Notice, that to the first group of workers, the land owner specified the wage they would be paid. But, to the second group He said He would pay them what is right. To the other groups no specific payment was mentioned.

We know that we who diligently and whole-heartedly work for the advancement of God’s kingdom shall receive an eternal reward. The exact reward to be received is not for us to totally know. God blesses here on earth, and will abundantly bless us when He calls us forth from His vineyard.

Focus on that which He asks of you, and rest assured that your eternal reward shall be beyond your imagination.
