The earth is shaking in our neighborhood these days, it has some literally shaking in their boots!
Great trees come thudding to the ground vibrating our walls and floors like so many explosions.
The longer they had stood their ground the louder and deeper the thuds as they came crashing down.
Had I known the day before I might have walked out among them and lingered in the forest grove saying my good byes touching their trunks with reverence and gazing upward through the leaves.
Three of our dear senior neighbors perished also in these past months
The loss of these elegant " trees"
helps bring home the reality that an era has ended, an era that had seemed incapable of ending, and none of us who remain under the heavy impact of all this will ever be the same.
