Warning About The Servant

In Matthew 18, verses 23 through 34 we read the parable about a king, who, wishing to settle accounts with his servants, called a man in who owed him a large sum of money. Since the man couldn’t repay the debt, the king planned to put him and his family in jail until the debt was paid. When the servant pleaded, the king had compassion and forgave the entire debt. This servant, however, went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a mere fraction of the amount he had owed the king. He would not have mercy on this fellow servant, but, instead had him thrown in jail until the debt was repaid. When the king heard of this he became very angry with the servant he had forgiven. He had him put into jail until the debt was repaid.

We are now this servant. The king, the Lord, has forgiven us all our debts, and furthermore, has provided us with salvation. So, when we go out into the world, and find people who “owe” us, what do we do? Are we willing to forgive them their debts, or do we demand repayment? The debt need not be materialistic. It could be repayment for a sin committed. Can, and will we forgive this one, or will we hold on to resentment, hatred, and other spiritually and physically harmful attitudes?

Wipe the slate clean for others, just as Christ has for you. The freedom you shall feel inside cannot be understood by this world.
