A Word About the Word

When you put God’s principles into practice,
They are real, not just ideals,
They’ll teach you how to love
How to empathize, how to feel;
And then you’ll keep on trucking
On the road to righteousness;
No more fears or frustration
For God’s Word is the soul you’ve kissed…
Yes, the LORD will lead the way,
The LORD will be your light.
His Word will never wound you,
Won’t cut you like a knife…
So, keep on scrutinizing the Scriptures,
It will only grow you in grace,
Yes, that Word will dispel the darkness
Page after loving page!
And you’ll grow better and not bitter,
As You measure the mind of God,
And you’ll start to think as He thinks;
You’ll learn to give sin a passing nod…
For Jesus is in that Bible,
Yes, He is the Word of God,
And you’ll find yourself kissing its cover
After reading it a lot…
For it truly is a love letter,
Sent from the Savior to you,
And it speaks of the splendid story
Of how He craved to create me and you…
So, keep your Bible handy:
It’s a manual on how to live life.
It also puts forth your progress reports,
When instead of dallying through its pages you dive…
For God thought of you as He wrote each word
When He wrote it yesterday…
Yes, each page is a perfect postcard
From a God who can seem so far away…
Yet He is right there beside you,
It is you for whom He longs,
And He sings it through His Scriptures,
Yes, a lullaby…a lovestruck song…
So, don’t neglect your Bible;
Don’t leave it on a shelf,
For, honey, then it can’t help you,
Or even help you to help yourself!
Yes, God’s Word will gird you
With wisdom and with strength…
He’ll fill your heart with happiness
At life’s every sorry stage…
So, don’t forget, and don’t you fret
So long as you read God’s Word:
It will lead you on to righteousness
And give you wings just like a bird…
