Just a few more minutes and I will have to make that walk. I hope I can do it like a man. This moment has played in my mind a thousand times in the last few days. I hope I can walk on my own. I would hate for them to have to carry me.

Is that laughter? Don’t they know where they are? Are they laughing at me? They can sense my fear. Why shouldn’t they laugh? It’s my own fault for being here. It’s in style for people in my situation to blame everyone else. Sure my mom could have been more attentive. My Dad didn’t really care. But is it their fault? I was the one that did the wrong things. I knew what was right but I just didn’t do them.

I’m hungry. Can’t eat now. I had my chance last night, but I couldn’t eat. Who could, especially knowing what was going to happen today?

“Mr. Krayter, It’s time”.

Legs don’t fail me! Stand up! O God, I am going to pass out.

“Mr. Krayter, walk this way.”

The doors are slamming behind me now. What was that old saying, “One door closes and another one opens”. Doesn’t seem likely right now. There is no escape. I must resign myself to my fate.

Who decorated this place? Green linoleum floors and slate walls. Functional I guess.

“Here we are, Mr. Krayter”.

This isn’t quite what I expected. The Chair seems to be the only thing in the room.

“Mr. Krayter, please sit down”.

I can’t do this! Okay, be a man. You have no one to blame but yourself.

All these people. How many people does it take? They seem so cold, distant. Why wouldn’t they? It’s just a job to them. How can this be just a job?

“Mr. Krayter, we are going to strap your arms”. “We do not want you to hurt us or yourself during the procedure”.

The procedure! Call it what it is! It’s torture!

“Mr. Krayter, do you have anything to say before we begin”?

I had so many questions but they didn’t seem to matter now.

“No.”

Then, if you would open wide, we will get that tooth out as quick as possible.

That was so great, I almost scared myself with the hoot I let out at the end. Thank you for a real laugh today.
