At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus, and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.” Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for John had been saying to him: “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet. We know what John’s fate turned out to be. John did not back down from preaching what he knew to be true. He tried to warn Herod that what he was doing was not pleasing in the eyes of God.

Today, in the church, it seems often more focus is put on the number of attendees, rather than on what Jesus tells us. Often it seems Jesus’ words are toned down, so as not to offend. Being a church attendee does not save one’s soul. Belonging to Jesus Christ saves the soul. I am not saying that we need to point fingers or should not attend church, but what we need to do, both in church and when conversing with others outside a place of worship is to share the truth. The truth can be found in the words of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. We cannot and must not sugar coat the Good News to win people to Christ. Sure some messages of Christ can be reinforced more with the maturation of a Christian, yet, we do not want to adjust what the Lord tells us to win people.

Just share the words of truth, and allow Christ to work on the hearts of those with whom you speak. He can do that which we cannot.
