I once went to a church of about 75 people. Small churches are great creating an extended family atmosphere rather than an institution. This group felt like family. The head of the church had the gift of faith healing combined with discerning of spirits. Lots of people got healed in that church including visitors.

Our leader didn’t just want to be the healer guy; He wanted to teach us how to heal as well. One book that everyone in that church read was Christ the Healer by F.F. Bosworth. Essentially the book pounds into your head that Jesus really does want you to be healed, and healing is part of the reason that Jesus went to the cross. It wasn’t just for you sins but for your full health in all ways.

The book also emphasizes proverbs 4:20-22
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Because of that verse, we were all encouraged to memorize scripture. In any area of our life we were to ask God for a scripture promise and then declare that promise. But of course, the emphasis was healing.

You may notice that there is an immersion of the senses of hearing, seeing, and heart. It is not just intellectual.

I’d like to point out the three ways that scripture says that faith comes:

  • Romans 10:17 says: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

  • Jude 20-25 says:  But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. Our interpretation of that is to pray in tongues.

  • Galatians 5:6 says: faith which worketh by love.

We also watched videos on various faith healers like Smith Wigglesworth and John G. Lake and the rest of the God’s General series. We listened to Curry Blake, Bill Johnson, Thurman Scrivner, Benny Hinn, etc.

Essentially, we learned that there were different kinds of ministries of healing. Some of the healers just went around healing people. But John G. Lake, F.F. Bosworth, and Curry Blake trained others so they could have a team.

I think of Henry Wright who combines counseling, pastoring and doctoring into one ministry and he also has a world-wide team.

If you study healing then you realize that Jesus healed people in many different ways. I tell my friends in whatever ministry that God calls them that they have to find their way into it. Sure, you can get nuggets from this teacher and that teacher, but essentially you are responsible for finding how you are called to heal. My calling involves discerning of spirits and prophetic arts but healing is not the emphasis of my ministry - it is a part of it.

I have known people who have a healing ministry by fasting and prayer. Cancer has been healed by them. Some simply stand on the word by faith and people get healed left and right. Some have a faith anointing and others have a healing anointing. Still others have a faith-healing anointing. Some have a discerning of spirits anointing. Some have a deliverance anointing. Some are called to do prophetic acts of faith. Some even have a love anointing where their caring breaks down walls. Some heal through tears of compassion which is a form of intercession. Some have a word of knowledge ministry where healing flows because they revealed a secret which opened someone up to faith. Some preach and healing comes through their preaching. Some prophecy and people are healed. Some have a worship-healing anointing. Some have a dance-healing anointing. I realize that this may shock the Baptists and religious. Some people can even have a scribal-healing ministry and people can get set free when they read their writing. I may be even so bold to say that some artists have an art-healing anointing.

I’m just saying that there’s more than one way to skin a cat and there is more than one way to get your healing. I will always say this: find your way to your anointing. The only one who can help you is God. The five-folders ministers can assist you but essentially you have to find your unique way of healing others through your relationship with Christ.
