Heavenly Father,

I thank you for the gift of your church,

That through the power of your Spirit,

You have brought together people,

From different backgrounds, nations, age and social groups,

And united us into one family in Christ,

And I thank you that you have given us buildings to meet in each week,

Where we can meet to fellowship together, pray together,

Sing together and read your Word together,

So please help me not to neglect to go to church,

But to make it a regular practice in my life,

And please help me Lord to attend with the right heart,

Not treating church as merely a social club or form of entertainment,

Or as something that is optional whenever I feel like it,

Or as a place that is only there to serve my happiness,

But as a place where I can gather in fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ,

As we worship and praise your name together,

And please help me to use the spiritual gifts you have given me,

That through serving others,

Your church would continue to be built up,

And I pray Lord that even during the times when I don’t feel like going,

When I am overwhelmed by trouble,

When I feel weak, tired, sad and hopeless,

Please give me the strength to still walk through those church doors,

So that, even if I don’t have the energy to talk to others,

I might receive some personal encouragement or be prayed for,

Or even if I don’t have the energy to serve others,

I might be served by my brothers and sisters in Christ who can share in my burdens,

Or even if I can’t sing your praises,

I might hear a particular message in a song, Bible reading, prayer or sermon,

That can lift up my spirits,

So Lord, as I gather with my brothers and sisters in Christ each week for worship,

May you continue to be glorified.
