Heavenly Father,

I thank you that you have given us your Word to live by,

And I thank you that you have given us your Spirit,

To help us understand what you have revealed to us in your Word,

I thank you that in your Word you have revealed to us your Son Jesus,

And that in him we have the hope of eternal life with you,

So help me not to neglect your Word,

But please give me the discipline and desire to read your Word every day,

Help me to learn from it and apply it well,

Both in my own life and alongside my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,

And to seek opportunities to teach it to others as well,

I pray that your Word would continue to strengthen, encourage and comfort me,

And that it would equip me to do all good things,

Help me not to forget what I read Lord,

But please help me to keep in mind what I learn each day,

To meditate on it constantly,

And grow my desire for wanting to read your Word more and more,

But I pray that when I struggle to understand your Word,

Give me the patience and understanding to study it well through your Spirit,

And please give me humility,

To not bring my prejudices or preconceived ideas into my reading of your Word,

To not simply glance over those parts of your Word that I would rather skip,

But to allow your Word to shape and correct my values, desires and beliefs,

Even those parts of your Word that I find difficult to agree with,

And please also give me humility,

To learn from other Christians who have studied your Word well,

And to be willing to ask questions when I have the opportunities,

That through your Word and the power of your Spirit,

I will grow to be more like your Son day by day.
