Be Forgiven of Your Sins

Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town. Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!” Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man. Matthew 9:1-8 NIV

How wrong were the teachers of the law. Jesus has the power to forgive sins. Which would you rather have, a cure from a physical impairment, or an assurance from the Master that you are forgiven of your sins. A physical healing is only as good as the length of your earthly life. Forgiveness of sins can lead to an eternal life with the Father and the Son. Jesus knew what was most important for this paralyzed man. Jesus did cure the man of his physical impairment. He wanted His adversaries to know that He had power over infirmities, as well as the power to forgive sins. Again, Jesus showed the leaders they were wrong in their thoughts.

You may be healed of a physical ailment, or a disability. Yet, keep at the forefront, that through Christ, you are forgiven of your sins. That is a freedom this world cannot take away from you.
