Lord, If You Are Willing

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” Matthew 8:1-4 NIV

The humility of this man is wonderful. First, when he came to Jesus, he knelt before Him. Secondly, his request came with the condition of it was the Lord’s will for him to be healed. It was the Lord’s will that the man be healed, and so, he was.

When we approach the Master with requests that need to be met, do we remember to say that this request is only to be carried out by the Lord if it is His will? That should certainly be the case, as our Lord knows us better than we do. He knows what is best for us. He is pleased that we come to Him, seeking. But, He is very pleased when we acknowledge that He knows what is best, and that if it is His will, we would like Him to answer our request.

Make sure your requests are to the glory of God. Ask that God’s will be done. What is best for you shall then be done.
