Family
Gui yawned, then turned to his Kennedie. "I'm still really exhausted," he said, "and I'm thinking I want to get back to that nap on the couch."
Kennedie stroked his cheek. "I'm sorry my yelling disturbed you, honey," she said.
Gui took her hand, held it to his face, then kissed it. "Not at all, sweetie. You were excited when you saw Ping had sent an e-mail, and so was I. I'm glad you woke me up for that." He grinned and kissed his wife again. "I'm just tired, because it's been a long week."
"I know what you mean," Kennedie said. "I'm tired, too."
"I have a wonderful idea," Gui said. "What do you say I lie back down on that couch and you lie down next to me and snuggle really close in my arms and we take a nap together?"
Kennedie smiled and kissed him. "That sounds wonderful, the next best thing to Heaven," she said. Gui took her hand, and they walked back to the couch. Gui lay down, and Kennedie climbed onto the couch beside him. Gui wrapped his arms around Kennedie, and she leaned her head on his chest and put her arms around him. Very soon they were both fast asleep.
When they woke a couple of hours later, the sun was just starting to set. Gui suggested that they take a walk on the beach together, and Kennedie agreed. They grabbed their sweatshirts, took each other by the hand, and walked outside onto the beach. They walked for a while, and then Gui sat down on the sandy shore. Kennedie sat in his lap, and he put his arms around her and leaned his chin in her hair.
Suddenly he started to cry. "What's wrong?" Kennedie asked as she turned around to look at her husband.
"I'm crying tears of joy and grief," Gui said. "I'm so happy that I will get to see my brother after not seeing him for so long, and I'm happy that he'll finally get to meet you, the most beautiful woman in the world, but I'm sad, too, because I know that he won't be welcome back in Hong Kong, as our parents are not talking to me and don't want him to talk to me, either. If he goes back to Hong Kong, he won't have any family ties. Not close ones, anyway."
Kennedie sighed sadly, then thought for a minute. "He could stay with us," she suggested. "He could stay here and find a job out here. We are his family."
Gui kissed Kennedie on the forehead and hugged her again. "Oh, Kennedie, you're the best woman who ever lived," he whispered.
Kennedie smiled and kissed Gui on the lips and said, "That's good, because I'm married to the best man who ever lived."
