“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:16-18 NIV

When one fasts, it can allow one to focus on a different hunger, a hunger for the word of God. One can also focus on a hunger to spend time in prayer with God. This is between the individual and God. Why would one need to broadcast the fact that they are fasting? That which is done for God is known by God. Don’t deter from it by broadcasting for all to hear. Do not seek recognition from man, but recognition from God. Seek not for glory for thyself, but for glory for the creator of all. You shall by rewarded by God for that which you privately do for Him. You need His recognition, and not the recognition of man.

Keep your fasting between you and God.
