The Lonely Road

I turn and look ahead,
The road seems long and hard.
As I begin this journey,
I must remember to keep up my guard.

There was a time I know,
When friends were all around.
But now I look to the left and the right,
And there is no one to be found.

The pain is so great
And the scars they go so deep,
And this mountain I'm about to climb
Is very very steep.

I begin to take a step
But wait! I suddenly stop,
Do I go to the left or the right,
Or do I go straight to the top.

I’m not sure of the direction I’m headed,
Which way that I should go.
The road seems so long and hard,
I think I’ll just take it slow.

A part of me wants to run
And not face what lies ahead.
I think I’ll just sit awhile,
And think about it instead.

I think about the past,
How painful it has been.
And now I don’t know if I can face
That kind of pain again.

And then I think of Jesus
As he sat in that garden there.
What thoughts went through his mind?
Were they thoughts he could not bear.

What about when he stood
Before the Scribes and Pharisees.
Lies were being spoken.
Friends where would they be?

Jesus was accused of many things,
None of which were true.
They said he did many things
That he would never do.

He sat amongst the sinners
Ministering Gods word.
And when He spoke, He spoke the words
That no one had ever heard.

Jesus when he ministered,
Gave life and set men free.
The Pharisees where so blind
That they couldn’t even see.

Though he did things different,
And went against tradition.
They just couldn’t see
That he was on a mission.

As I look back into my life
I see the similarity.
I was ministering words of life
And setting people free.

Yet, the people in the body of Christ
Were blind and couldn’t see
The work that I was doing
Was setting people free.

Accused of many things
That I would never do,
I cried and wept because of the pain
That I was going through.

Where are my friends? I’m all alone.
They said they cared for me.
But now I know I can only depend
On the one I cannot see.

You see his name is Jesus.
He has been where I am now.
And as I sit here all alone
My heart to him I bow.

I sit here all alone.
The victory is not yet won.
I want so much to be able to say,
"Your will, not mine, be done."

So now I look ahead
At the road so long and hard.
In order for me to take a step,
I must let down my guard.

I stand to take a step.
But wait! What is this fear?
I turn and want to run.
But a greater power is holding me here.

I feel this road is dangerous
And that I will surely die.
All I can do is fall to my knees
And at Your feet I cry.

Lord, I don’t want to be alone.
This burden I can’t bear.
I don’t want to die. I want to live.
But does anyone really care?

And then I look. What do I see?
Jesus is over there.
The burden that he carried
Was very hard to bear.

He was walking down a road
That was long and very hard.
And as I looked I could tell
He was beaten, bruised, and marred.

He was beaten for my transgression,
Bruised for my iniquity.
By his stripes I was healed.
His blood has set me free.

So now I stand, yet not alone.
Jesus is by my side.
He promised me His Spirit,
My teacher, my helper, my guide.

Now I stand to take a step,
Step one, step two, step three.
But fear hits me once again.
What lies ahead for me?

I see a mountain at the end
Of this long and lonely road.
But why do I feel that death
Is my one and only load?

And then I looked. What did I see?
Jesus walking down the road.
The cross, the pain, the blood-stained face
Were all a part of his load.

He walked that long, hard road
To his death at calvary.
He did this not for himself,
But for His love for you and me.

At the end of the road I saw
Jesus hanging there.
The sky grew dark, the people cried.
But did they really care?

Then he was taken down
And in the tomb he was placed.
The people who put him there
With their guilt they were faced.

But wait!!!! What is this?
The third day He arose.
It wasn’t death for Jesus
That God, the Father, chose.

You see my child it’s life,
Not death, I chose for you.
But you must die before you can live
The life I have for you.

As tears streamed down my face,
I looked into his eyes.
The love he felt for me
He would not dare disguise.

For God so loved the world
That he gave His only Son
And through his death and ressurrection
The victory was won!
