Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. Matthew 6:11-12 NLT

I was a bit surprised to see that most bible versions I referred to used debts and debtors in verse twelve. I could not find one which used the word trespass.

First, Jesus mentions that God does provide the daily food which we need. Much too often we take for granted that which we are given by God. Yet, God does offer the food we need. We must learn not to take for granted that which God gives to us.

We rightly do need to ask God to forgive us our sins. But, we must in turn be ready to forgive those who have sinned against us. If we will not do so, we certainly cannot expect to receive forgiveness from our creator. Forgiving others is also good for our health. No need to carry around resentment and hostility in our hearts. Forgive, just as Christ has forgiven you.
